Last week, I asked for help to make Mr 7’s party “work for me”. He wanted a hot dog theme party!
Thanks to all of your great suggestions, the party is ready! We will have a hot dog cake http://jas.familyfun.go.com/recipefinder/display?id=50155 , play “tape the hot dog to the bun”, “pass the hot dog”, rent a dog shaped moonwalk, and have some hot dog vendor theme party bags. My son is so excited!
This brings me to my Works for Me tip. My son wanted to have a slumber party but he had several friends to invite…some of which are girls. I explained girls don’t come to boys slumber parties (which of course, he didn’t get at all! LOL). So we opted for an UN-slumber party. The children arrive at 4:30 and parents pick up at 10pm. They wear comfy clothes and bring a pillow. We have all the fun of a slumber party (movie, games, flashlight tag, Moonwalk, cake, presents, etc) without the sleeping at someone else’s house thing! Whoo-hooo!!! Works for Me!

That is absolutely brilliant! Kids that age can get a little upset in the middle of the night when away from home. Doing everything but the overnight part is a great idea!
Sounds like a great idea.
We think alike! When my son was about that age and wanted a coed overnight, we opted for an “overday”. Kids came for breakfast and stayed through supper! 8:30-5:30, I think. Again, it was the idea of a longer space of time to allow for plenty of crafts and games, some movie watching, lots of fun food, etc. without the stress of an overnight. It helped out working parents because we had it on a weekday, and they didn’t have to figure out how to get kids to and from the party.
love the hot dog idea! tres originale
have fun!
[...] May 17th, 2007 For those of you who are interested, I have finally worked out the details for Mr 7’s unslumber party this weekend. He chose a “hot dog” theme! LOL He’s quite a unique, creative child so that was no surprise. (http://ramblinamblins.wordpress.com/2007/05/16/works-for-methe-hot-dog-un-slumber-party/) [...]
