I spoke about this book in an earlier post and decided I wanted to go a bit more in depth on it in this post. I was going to make it my Works for Me Wednesday for yesterday, but I missed the link deadline~
I received the book “Duggar Family: 20 and Counting” (www.duggarfamily.com) for Christmas (I’d asked for it on my Christmas list because I admire Michele Duggar). I eagerly dove into reading it while we drove to Florida for Christmas vacation.
It is a wonderful book! The book is written by both Michele and her husband. It has that “sitting and chatting” feel to it due to the style of writing as well as the book layout. There are a pictures, recipes, and “tips/extra info sections” sprinkled throughout the book. The book covers their dating, and early life through the present. I really loved the sections that dealt with finances and with child-rearing. The last few pages of the book are a resource list where you can get more information on things mentioned in the book (such as Managers of Their Chores).
I came away with several good ideas:
Managers of their Chores: I’ve ordered this and it should arrive later this week. It is a chore system for children and families. I’ve thought about purchasing it for a year now. The Duggar book was the impetus to finally get it ordered. www.titus2.com
Using a bank system for allowance: We are always scrambling for change to pay the children’s allowance. I don’t know why we never thought of this before, especially since Amblin Man is in finance. But we are going to start using a “bank account” system for the children’s money. They can keep balances on ledgers (I’ll help) and then withdraw as needed.
There’s tons more I want to cover but I’m off to play Syberia II with my children. I’ll post more tomorrow on this book.
I admire anyone who can handle that many children. Think of the laundry alone!
What is Syberia II? Board or video game?
Thanks for the book review.
